Stephen Colbert Joins Reddit Gift Exchange for Troops.
Fans of actor/comedian Stephen Colbert in the Spokane, Washington area have an opportunity to join the bear-fearing fake pundit in a new effort to help support active military personnel from the United States and other countries.
On Monday, May 21, the social news site Reddit launched a new gift exchange program that encourages people to send care packages to Reddit users who are currently serving with any branch of their country’s armed services.
According to Christine Erickson of Mashable, “The initiative is part of a larger ongoing project, ‘redditgifts.’ This [Secret Santa] style gift exchange allows users to swap goods with each other. Past redditgifts exchanges have presented users with DVDs, letters, basic necessities and even a laptop.
“The troops gift exchange launched [Monday] — and comedian Stephen Colbert has already claimed the first spot on the list of gift givers, or ‘[S]antas.’”

He never ceases to amaze me with his talents, intelligence, and kindness. He has so much wisdom from his life experiences that he does not hesitate to share with young people to enable us to choose to live our lives in a way that is fulfilling, has purpose, and brings us happiness. An unending desire for knowledge of all manner of topics and a curiosity about people, their thoughts, feelings, motivations; is a delight to witness and share in through his program. A program that would not exist if not for his talents, intelligence, passion, and hardwork. A program that from the outset has had a profound impact on how people view and think about politics, power, and governance. To think of the direct influence both he and his show has had on the processes of the system is incredible; positively and negatively. It’s educational, it’s inspirational, it’s fun. He constantly pushes boundaries others would not even think of and makes people laugh, think, and act as a result.
I marvel at his mind and how it works, particularly his quick wit. He has so much knowledge stored in his mind and is able to use it without hesitation and with unbelievable humour. He is never afraid of using this intellect and humour to call out hypocrisy or prejudice, and standing up for people with less privilege. He isn’t afraid to call it out in front of their face either which is gratifying. Even in these situations he remains kind, humane, never vindictive or hurtful. An important trait to admire and aspire to have.
He works incredibly hard and is enormously dedicated both within the program and outside of the program to issues and causes that he is passionate about. In particular his support of serving military personnel and veterans and his constant efforts to raise awareness in the civilian public of the importance of recognising what they do, what they have done, and what they face when returning from combat. It is a significant contribution in a time when most of us have no direct impact of the wars our armed services are fighting and therefore pay no price and carry no burden and often do not give a second thought to those who do.
I admire his devotion to his faith and appreciate how he shows the intelligent and kind way it can be observed.
The love he shows for his family warms my heart. I can only hope that one day I can meet and marry a man as wonderful as he is. I unfortunately don’t know him personally and therefore any character assessment of his relationships is pure speculation but I do suspect he is the best husband and father you could imagine. He certainly isn’t perfect, he is a flawed human being and I don’t love everything he says and does, but perfection is impossible.
It’s fitting that is is mother’s day because he is quite possibly everything a mother could want in a son.
